Sailing is a sport that is deeply connected with nature, requiring an understanding of nature, wind control, and decision-making skills. However, despite its high costs and technical complexity, it gives the perception that sailing is an exclusive, competition-driven activity, and hard to approach.

Pattaya is a city renowned for its water sports culture. Due to its easy accessibility with transportation connections, it has been a favorite destination for urban residents seeking a seaside escape. The Royal Varuna Yacht Club, one of the sailing clubs located in Pattaya, has played an important role in supporting and promoting sailing in Thailand. As a well-known sailing club, it has hosted various national and international sailing events, becoming a gathering place for sailors and sportspeople. However, due to all the challenges, sailing has not reached its potential in engaging the wider public.

From the reasons mentioned above, we choose to revitalize the Royal Varuna Yacht Club into the Varuna Seaside Club. The goal is to create a more welcoming and accessible environment where sailing is promoted not only as a competitive sport but also as a leisure sport that can also be applied to educational activities. By offering more flexible and accessible learning experiences for diverse age ranges, the project aims to attract a broader audience and foster a lifelong appreciation for sailing.

The concept behind the design of the Varuna Seaside Club aims to make sailing more accessible and relatable to a wider public. Our intension is to create an environment where people can connect with sport of sailing, not just as a competitive sport, but as a recreational, educational, and full of experience. We want to emphasize the beauty of sailing while highlighting the uniqueness of this sport that is often overlooked by the public.

Sailing is a sport that relies on nature, specifically wind energy, and it takes place in the open air, surrounded by water and natural elements. This connection with nature is something we want to bring into the space of the design. By blending the sport’s natural environment with the interior and exterior spaces of the Varuna Seaside Club, we aim to create an atmosphere that makes visitors feel the essence of sailing in the design. Whether they are inside the building or outside, we want people to feel that they attached to nature Through our space and façade design engage to experiencing the natural elements of wind, sun, and sea.

Another aspect of the design is how it guides visitors through space. We want to create a journey for everyone who enter the Varuna Seaside Club, just like sailing itself is a journey that requires skill, patience, and the right approach. The landscape within the club will be designed to guide visitors, allowing them to move naturally from one area to another, much like the smooth movement of a sailboat on water.
