The Horse Community Hub, HoovesCraft is a gathering place for horse enthusiasts, tourists, and professionals aiming to revitalize the declining horse racing industry. In recent years, the industry has faced major setbacks from technological changes, a negative perception of gambling, high taxes, low prize incentives, and the impact of COVID-19. These factors led to the closure of several racetracks, including the Suranaree Military Camp Racecourse, the sale of over 90% of Thailand’s racehorses overseas, and the loss of approximately 400,000 jobs.
Located in the heart of the city and overseen by the Royal Thai Army, the Suranaree Racecourse is surrounded by recreational areas such as parks, golf courses, riding clubs, and sports centers. This strategic location offers an opportunity to transform the space into a vibrant hub.
The project is organized into three key zones:
- A recreational space for horse lovers to interact and engage,
- An event venue for horse racing festivals and expos,
- A cultural zone featuring a museum that celebrates horse racing heritage.
The development also includes cafés, restaurants, members’ areas, event venues, equine therapy services, experience trails, exhibitions, and horse boarding facilities. These diverse functions aim to rebuild the horse racing community, support horse welfare, and promote cultural awareness.
This thesis serves as a design framework for the adaptive reuse and interior architecture of The Horse Community Hub, HoovesCraft, with the goal of preserving the tradition of horse racing while fostering growth and relevance within today’s society.
