PROJECT: LOPBURI PERFORMING ARTS PAVILLION
STUDENT : SUPANAT JITPRASONG
LOCATION: LOPBURI, THAILAND
AREA: 3356 sq.m.

Various things that were once valuable in the past have been gradually forgotten over time. Lopburi, which was formerly a significant historical hub with a vibrant cultural legacy, is no exception. It has been forgotten from history and remembered as the "Monkey City."

Similarly, local stand-alone cinemas have been abandoned and demolished in many locations throughout Thailand. Lopburi was once the most prosperous era for local cinemas in the country, with the establishment of four cinemas. However, they could not stop the changes brought by the passage of time. Due to its past significance as an important port city, it facilitated the exchange and transmission of various cultures, reflecting on local wisdom such as loincloth, mudmee silk, mat weaving, brass casting, and even Like, traditional dramatic performance. Sadly, these various things are fading away and will no longer be recognized or appreciated.

This architecture project has emerged as a medium to bring back everything that is fading away within Lopburi and make them reappear once again. The connection of nature and the context of both the old and new city becomes a part of the architecture that reflects the traces of different periods, each with its own value. Through this intention, the Lopburi Performing Arts Centre will serve as a representation in creating new meanings for the city, as well as reviving and preserving its life and value. By gracefully inheriting them, roots and identity will not be forgotten again.

The intention behind this architecture's design is to preserve and present traces of different time periods through architecture, reflecting their distinct values. These values encompass three different time periods:

1.Historical value - Through the traces of ancient architecture, embedded in the context of the old town, the design evokes the beauty and grandeur of the past, reminding people of the splendor of Lopburi in ancient times.

2.Cultural value - By incorporating the structures and ideas of Stand-Alone Cinema architecture, influenced by the Brutalist movement of the time, the design reflects the cultural significance. These structures are represented by four original buildings that emerged simultaneously.

3.Contemporary value - The design embraces modern construction technology, which will be reflected in various structural elements and details. This integration of modern technology into architecture represents the current era.

When these three time periods intersect and overlap, a new value emerges, blending local art and indigenous wisdom into the architecture. This represents a future period, symbolizing hope for the revival of Lopburi's culture. It is achieved through interpretation and the fusion that will take place under this architectural masterpiece.
