PROJECT : INTERIOR ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN PROPOSAL FOR THAWSI SCHOOL
STUDENT : NATWARA WICHATHORN
LOCATION : BANGKOK, THAILAND
AREA : 3,126 sq.m.
Thawsi School was established in 1991. Initially, only kindergarten levels were taught. Then in 1999, the school expanded to pre-kindergarten and primary school levels along with changing the teaching and learning approach to the Buddhist Way of Wisdom to develop students to have a complete and prosperous life according to Buddhism. This approach uses the individual as a core which is different from past studies that used learning subjects as a core. It will motivate the students on "Self Awareness" and "Self Development". Due to the increase in the number of students along with the location of the school which is in an urban area. It causes a limited horizontal space. For this reason, the Rommanee area (Delightful Place) that is the main part of the learning approach is formed vertically instead which makes the lack of connection with the Rommanee environment in a horizontal area. Additionally, the internal usage area is unfit for the users and learning approach so it would not facilitate the self-development in the Rommanee environment. At present, the school has planned to expand the usage area vertically and enhance the traffic within the school.
All reasons above led to the interior architectural design proposal. The purpose of this proposal is to adjust and develop the vertical area. Also, enhancing the interior space to create the stage of Rommanee conducive to self-learning and self-developing under the Buddhist Way of Wisdom and create a relation with the new context of Thawsi School
The concept of the design-based Buddhism, named “From Delightful Place to Delightful Mind” creates a connection between the surrounding nature and students in which the child receives a good environment. It is conducive to learning and life development which is consistent with the mission of Thawsi School. Delightful Place can refer to the physical environment of the school, whether it is a classroom or a learning area. natural area by designing these areas to be open to nature through various perceptions.
This natural connection will reflect on the students. Learning in a good environment will improve learning efficiency as well as support students to see the cycle of nature through designs that promote this awareness, space planning, openings, materials, and accessibility by modifying/increasing areas for learning in the vertical. Creating a sense of Rommanee and connecting with nature within the school so that students can have more access to nature. and improve the usage area inside the building to facilitate self-learning and self-development under the Buddhist way of wisdom
