Losing is painful, yet it is also strange at the same time. When humans are grieving and getting overwhelmed with emotions, their hearts also healed themselves day by day. The sadness turns into beauty which will happen when the moment of realization that the loved one will always be with us but in our memory instead.
Nowadays, the cemetery area is located all over the heart of the capital city, Bangkok, where places are full of potential. However, places that are full of potential, prime spots, easy access, and so on, were not used efficiently since the cemetery area would be used once a year approximately.
And in the context of the heart of the capital city, living city life is very stressful and competitive leading to bad mental well-being which could cause “depression” if people were not treated properly.
So, I came up with this project, a project that aims to develop the potential of the cemetery area into a space for all; A place for all ages, a place of remembrance, a place for relaxation, both physical and mental, a place for inspiration, a place that will remind us of a life cycle that we were born and one day we will pass away eventually.
Lastly, I wish that this development could be a part of a healing process that engaged your body, soul, and nature together to heal yourself.

The Memories of Life project is located within the area of Benchakitti Forest Park, Bangkok. This park is a green area full of peacefulness which matches my intentions which are remembering, relaxing, inspiring, reminding, and engaging nature with body and soul in order to heal our body, both physically and mentally.
In architecture where death is memorialized and their remains stored in beautiful ways and pleasing settings, visitors and passersby are presented with a familiar environment where they can share their feelings, thoughts, and uncertainties about life and death.

The activities that can be combined with such architecture as described above, include
  • Exhibition
An exhibition where you can learn about loss, letting go of the departed in the form of biodegradable urns, and the uncertainty of all life.
  • Common
Public space that everyone could use. Plus, The tea shop is a main highlight of the area since the tea benefits relaxation and stress reduction. Moreover, there will be a connection point to the second floor of the project that connects to the external corridor and can see the whole picture of the project.
  • Columbarium
The question is “How can we reduce the space required to store the death?” Ceramic urns sealed with red bee wax contain human remains that will be stored in the memory wall and another way to keep them as the biodegradable urns contain a mixture of plant-nourishing human remains, compost and a tree seed to bring forth life in a different form. It is one of those remedies for letting go of them to be one of the memories.
  • Peaceful
Quiet area, to let people have a moment to themselves, to think and reflect. Or to sit down and talk to exchange ideas about the loss or grief that has occurred.
Similarly, storage places for the dead can be combined with complimentary uses to not only achieve space savings but also bring about emotional and spiritual benefits for visitors. Clustering these landscapes with other complementary uses and around transport nodes will make them more accessible and attractive to various users. Less vandalism and closer traveling distances hold further financial and resource savings.

Mourning is not a weakness, but a psychological necessity.
