Thailand Creative Design Center (TCDC) is a creative resource center, based at Bangrak Grandpostal, focused on supporting design and creative industries. The current facilities are geared toward serving the needs of “Creative People” mainly - however, in the recent year, TCDC mission statement and scope has expanded to cover more groups of users beyond just “Creative People”.
With Bangrak Grandpostal’s historical value come limitations posed by the current structure. The circulation of the building was not designed to serve the new cast of its public users. The building’s limited supply of public space and not-up-to-standard exhibition space also limits the ability for TCDC to better support its users and attract new users into the TCDC ecosystem, as hosting exhibitions for local artists and touring exhibitions are one of the key tools for supporting its users and engaging with potential new users.
The program proposed aim to address these limitations via a permeability approach to circulation, a standardized exhibition space, and a flexible public space to encourage urban interaction.
