PROJECT: INTERIOR ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN PROPOSAL FOR RENOVATING FROM OLD PHRA NAKHON SI AYUTTHAYA CITY HALL TO PHRA NAKHON SI AYUTTHAYA VISITOR EXPERIENCE CENTER, PHRA NAKHON SI AYUTTHAYA

Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, in the past 5 years, has had tremendous growth in tourism and the economy where the number of tourists is the 6th largest in the country and the largest in the central region. There is the Ayutthaya Historical Park, which is a center of many historical attractions, and within the province, there is a variety of tourism, including food, historical tourism that is very interesting. However, nowadays, all tourisms in Ayutthaya are still distinct from one another. Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya City Hall will form a big picture of tourism within Ayutthaya and be a link between tourists and local people.
Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya City Hall is also important since it was built in the era of the People's Party, almost 80 years old. It was used as a city hall until its dilapidated condition and insufficiency for the use of staff. In 1996, it was changed to the Ayutthaya Tourist Center. For more than 25 years, it has not been renovated, causing the building to deteriorate and the internal functionality is no longer appropriate. Therefore, this area was renovated as PHRA NAKHON SI AYUTTHAYA VISITOR EXPERIENCE CENTER in response to the rapid growth of the province and in response to modern tourism which is more interesting than visiting the ancient sites alone.
PHRA NAKHON SI AYUTTHAYA VISITOR EXPERIENCE CENTER will, therefore, be a new tourist destination that serves to connect tourists and people in the community together, as well as being a platform to support events or festivals that will take place in Ayutthaya. Moreover, sustainable tourism within Ayutthaya Province will be promoted by supporting activities and products of the people in the community which creates opportunities for ideas exchange between tourists and local people. This allows tourists to experience more of the local lifestyle. It is also an area for providing information in the historical park where its area is more than 3,000 Rai (1 Rai = 1,600 Square Meters), enabling tourists to travel in the most efficient and best quality way without destroying the attractions.
Our project is, hence, a new starting point for tourism in Ayutthaya. It gives an overview of Ayutthaya Province. The word that can convey the concept of Ayutthaya well and thoroughly is “NAVA NAKHON” or the city of riverine. Since Ayutthaya is surrounded by three rivers, it creates abundance in the area and is a good strategic point for the battle. NAVA (river) is considered as the fountain of Ayutthaya and connects everything together since, in the past, ships were the main transportation. Another word is NAKHON which is temple, palace and market, considered as the place for habitat and livelihood. However, nowadays, the way of life has changed, causing NAVA and NAKHON to be more separated from each other, not blending as one like in the pas
In this area, NAVA and NAKHON will be combined again. Therefore, there is the function following the way of life of Ayutthaya villagers, which is folk wisdom. Thai food and desserts are adjusted in terms of presentation to be more interesting. Combined with the original function of the building which is an area for providing tourist information of museums and galleries, this results in the variety of functions to coexist, allowing tourists to experience a new kind of tourism. Those functions will be connected by water stream in various styles and there will be a combination between the old city and the water stream in the form of element, space, and activities, allowing tourists to have a unique and different experience of Ayutthaya tourism.
PHRA NAKHON SI AYUTTHAYA VISITOR EXPERIENCE CENTER is a new tourism destination in Ayutthaya that brings together the diversity of Ayutthaya into one. This makes the city more accessible, uncomplicated, and everyone can participate in the activities that will be exhibited.
