STUDENT : NAPAS TANSURIYAWONG
LOCATION: KRABI, THAILAND
AREA: XXXXX sq.m.
In today's fast-paced world, people have various interests and goals, often causing them to pay less attention to others. However, community is important. Together, we bring different skills and ideas to the table, making life more fulfilling and exciting. Therefore, we are trying to create space where community members can actively engage.
When we think of Krabi, the first images that come to mind are stunning natural landscapes, the beach and island. Despite its natural beauty, Krabi also has a rich cultural heritage, with historic sites, temples, and local communities showcasing traditional Thai way of life. Visitors can explore fishing villages, markets, and rural areas to experience authentic Thai culture and hospitality.
However, with so many fascinating local communities to discover, it can be challenging to visit them all. That's why we're dedicated to gathering and preserving community culture in one accessible space. Furthermore, Recognizing the importance of art in lives and creativity, we aim to prioritize art within our community. By establishing an art center, we want to prioritize art in the community by having an art center for having a place where people can share art too. This ensures that even in suburb areas where exposure to art may be limited, all ages can engage with various forms of artistic expression in their daily lives.
The Krabi community art and cultural center located in Maharaj Road,Pak Nam Subdistrict,Mueng Krabi District,Krabi Thailand. The site is in the city which is surrounded by many schools so children can come to visit the center easily. Moreover, Krabi city serves as a gateway to various tourist attractions, welcoming travelers who can stop by before heading elsewhere. Most people who come to this place will be students for learning culture, local volunteers for teaching and giving lectures and others local for other activities. The program in this project is temporary exhibition, performing area, shop area, café, co-working space, permanent exhibition, and workshop. These are the programs that will allow visitors and locals to come visit and learn about the community more.
The project Krabi community art and cultural center started because we wanted a place where everyone in our community could come together and enjoy art and culture. It’s important to have a space where people can connect and share their talents and stories. Therefore, Therefore, our concept revolves around the idea of connectivity. Whether it's visitors connecting with locals or locals connecting with each other, we aim to design a space where everything feels interconnected. We can see one another’s activities while doing our things. We also want people to use the center without feeling anxious, so we try to make the place giving the natural house vibes by using wood and green material to make a safe space. We also use material that local community houses use such as bamboo wood concrete. We are using an organic form to make the place lively and welcoming people too. We also using batik pattern and weaving pattern which refer to local culture in the space to
Sometimes, we enter cultural centers and get confused about what to do first. So, we've prioritized creating a clear circulation path to guide first-time visitors through all the activities. This way, everyone can explore the center and discover everything it has to offer. For regular visitors, easy access to the co-working and shop areas ensures a seamless experience. The interior design in each activity refers to connecting with community which reminds them that they are not alone.
