Phetchaburi is a province with variety of important tourist attractions and diversity of culture, craftsmanship, history, ethnicity and food. Currently, there is a tourist attraction which is an image that represent the province called “Khao Wang”. There are Arcade Shopping Center and cable car station at the mountain foot. There are not as many local shops as there were in the past but the cable car station is still open for service so that people can go to the top. Apart from variety of landmark, Phetchaburi is also known for the local food, which is the so-called “Mueng Sam Ros”, a three flavors city, sour, sweet and salty. The fertility of the land results in a variety of ingredients. The province also received the Creative City Award from UNESCO in 2021, under the topic of “City of Gastronomy”.
This shows that Phetchaburi has unique culture in gastronomy and potential to attract new customers, which is developed into the project “TASTE OF PHETCHABURI” promoting gastronomy tourism.
The “TASTE OF PHETCHABURI” project is an attraction for food tourists that will present the story of Phetchaburi food through various forms of eating areas, creating good eating experience. There is also a cable car station that helps promoting tourism.
“TASTE OF PHETCHABURI” project is a renovation of Khao Wang Cable Car and Arcade Shopping Center, which retain the original design of some areas, including the cable car station, workshop area and Phet Artisan Exhibition that promote local handcraft culture. This project comes in the concept of “Tase of Phet Taste of Place”, using the uniqueness of local food, famous restaurants, and ingredients origin such as salt and palm sugar to design different eating areas, which includes variety of services, ingredients trading area. This is the place where people can enjoy the taste of Phetchaburi food.
The area consists of dining hall, which is an extension of the original building, aiming to accommodate food tourists. The facade is designed, using toddy palm leaf as design element to represent the unique origin of ingredients in Phetchaburi such as Toddy palm stove and salt barn. The interior design is divided into distinct area that highlight the ingredient origin such as seafood and salt farm. There are also kiosks and restaurants that sell notable local food. The Tale of Sweet Taste represents the sweet ingredients like toddy palm and local desserts which is the distinctive point of the province. There are also culinary workshops for people who might be interested and ingredient market that combine significant ingredients in one place.
The material choices are those which are suitable with the original site and are the representation of local ingredients like palm wood, fish drying rack and, toddy palm leaf so that they can refer to the taste of place.
The project “TASTE OF PHETCHABURI” is designed to attract tourists to local area, present tourism information, gather cultural knowledge in many aspects and spread local art, culture and gastronomy of Phetchaburi.
