The largest city in northern Thailand, Chiang Mai is one of the most popular destinations in Thailand and a paradise for foodies. With a long history, culture, climate, geography, and migration patterns all played a part of influencing the unique taste of northern Thai food, Known as Lanna cuisine. This unique food set, Lanna cuisine, presides in the Northern regions of Thailand have been preserved as one of a culinary heritage due to its distinct, unforgettable, and culturally unique taste. Moreover, Lanna's food has been improved and the recipes have been passed down from generation to generation from the ingredients selection process, to the cooking process and to the traditional style of eating. With, its own visual aesthetic of color in food and distinctive style of plate decoration makes it appealing to both Thai and Westerners. This Thai local food reflects the wisdom of Thai ancestors who invented these healthy nutritious dishes.
However, nowadays, Thai local food has undergone some modifications and improvements making this unique dish lose much of its originality and cultural identity, unfortunately. With the potential of Lanna cuisine and the projects sites, gives rise to the interior architecture design renovation project from the Mardi Heritage to a precious Culinary Art Village, which aims to create a space to promote and value food culture. Through some necessary improvement in interior design and architecture in order to be able to develop into food cultural attraction in the form of gastronomy tourism. As a way to preserve, promote and transfer local food knowledge and skills through leisure tourism that will create a new experience for tourists and also encourage local employment and boost local economic development.
Under, the concept of eating well and doing activities in a good space, derives from the interpretation of the program suggested. In addition, the concept also corresponds to the idea of “you are what you eat” which reflects on living a good life and focuses on creating personal value inside out.
By bringing Lanna's traditional elements to create a friendly environment of local farmers through proper use of space and elements from vernacular architecture. Furthermore, food is one of the main elements that is used to create an environment and activities via tactile learning as a means for knowledge exchange and strengthening relationships between communities and tourists.
The areas within the project will create a storyline through “STORYTELLING” of a journey of Lanna's food in the past through the use of three distinct elements.
